@blowfish I live in the neighborhood and we have always been fans of graziella's so it pains me to say that after anima on myrtle installed a wood burning oven that their pizza is better. graziella's crust is too soggy.

TD you didn't refute any of my arguments.

Maybe I would not be losing billable hours but would like to spend the time with my family or doing something else. What it comes down to is that there really is no rational reason. Its simply a group of people that just prefers something to be done their way. Nothing wrong with that but don't pretend its anything else.

You don't want me to shop at the coop because I highly value my time and/or can afford to pay someone to work it for me? Sounds like classism to me.

Again why wouldn't you want me to create a job for someone who wants to work?

Posted by: eh at July 22, 2010 5:34 PM in response to Greene Hill Co-op Approves Putnam Lease

So instead you simply created a class system that favors people that have tons of free time on their hands. Why would you not offer the option to buy out at whatever price the cost would be to hire someone. If people are willing to pay they will if not you don't lose anything. There are folks that hang out at Home Depot hiring themselves out as laborers. Why not let me create a job for someone else if I prefer not to work at the coop?

Posted by: eh at July 22, 2010 4:41 PM in response to Greene Hill Co-op Approves Putnam Lease

The fact is that the work requirement places an unfair tax on those who already work onerous hours or those who are highly compensated for their time. I really haven't heard a good reason why you should not be able to buy out of it other than the fact that it offends some militant leftists.

@boredbrownstoner. yes its just a diner. but diner food can be really good. its not hard to make a decent plate of eggs and bacon.

you can get a better breakfast from a corner deli that has a hot plate than this place serves.

I hope the food improves. i'd be there a couple times a week.

great news.

The architect is now involved and we will have another hearing Sept.28. It was definitely a regrettable oversight not to have gotten a permit for the gates. We worked with Landmarks every step of the way, but slipped up here. The ground floor is where I mainly live and work. After I moved in many neighbors suggested I put gates on the 'garage doors'. Being next to a laundromat and shoemaker, people often congregate in front of my house. The gates provide a space so that sound is less intrusive and adds to the feeling of security and privacy. There was a gate on the front door in the tax photo.
In my experience, Landmarks had purview over everything , visible or not. I was not permitted to put a larger window in the back. I was able to put windows in the front doors because the tax photo shows this much glass. I might not have done so if I were able to have more light from my rear yard.

At a staff level meeting I have shown them photos of 8 carriage houses in the next block with gates on their front doors. 7 of these doors are unpainted wood. However their response was "they will not recommend to reverse the Commission denial to legalize the stain finish on windows and doors." Additionally they recommend "to modify the security grilles so they have greater definition as gates and possibly a more decorative presence." I cannot understand why these changes are beneficial.

When I initially received the violation it stated that I would be fined $5,000. if the gates were not removed in 20 days and charged $250. per day they remained. It certainly felt like it 'had teeth'.
I prefer to do things in compliance, but would like to understand what I am complying with and that it made sense.

I appreciate the support and advice of many of these posts and my neighbors in Clinton Hill. Thank you.
