Hannah's Big Score

Record shopping is one of my favorite pastimes, sifting through giant bins of dusty old records, searching for one gem among the countless '80s one-hit wonders. Over the weekend I checked out EAT Records to see if I could find anything to add to my ever-growing collection, and did I ever.

Finding this Gang of Four album made me absolutely jump for joy. It is one my favorites of all-time and a necessary addition to any collection. (Entertainment! was their awesome 1979 debut.)

This John Fahey record could be my find of the year—his instrumental avant-garde folk is unique and arrestingly beautiful. I've been looking for this for ages and since buying it I haven't taken it off my turntable. Both these records were $20 and in spectacular condition, though record prices vary with the music and condition of the vinyl. You can find EAT Records in the vault at Skylight One Hanson every weekend, where you can also find me spending my entire paycheck.

We're back in the cavernous tasting room at Brooklyn Brewery this Sunday with all the yummy treats you could wish for. This weekend prepare to pair your suds with food from:

Asia Dog: Hot dogs with Asian inspired toppings, basically the perfect beer food.

Home by the Range: Local and sustainable ingredients for the best possible salads and sandwiches.

Noodle Lane: Chinese noodle dishes that will keep you warm and full.

Kumquat Cupcakery: What's lunch without dessert? These cupcakes are the cutest end to any meal.

Admission is free, but food and beer are not. Brooklyn Brewery is at 79 N. 11th St. between Wythe and Berry. See you Sunday.

Featured Vendor—Back With a Bang

by Hannah

Back With a Bang sells trinkets of all sorts: from some of the coolest vintage tees you've ever seen to kitschy salt and pepper shakers. We sat down with vendor Angela Wieland, who shares her booth with EAT Records down in the vault at Skylight One Hanson, and asked her a few questions about the Flea and her stuff. Hannah's Big Score

My roommate is an exceptionally dapper gentleman who just had a birthday. I was almost completely at a loss on what to get him when I stumbled upon these colorful bow-ties down in the vault at Skylight One Hanson. As luck would have it bow-ties are pretty much his favorite thing in the whole world (besides me, of course). He wouldn't go for any lame clip-on bow-tie, no sir, so these finely made ones seemed like the perfect gift. Needless to say, the bow-tie was a hit and will hopefully get me out of doing the dishes for at least the next week. The bow-ties can be found at Kingston Twenty-One and range from $35 to $90—a small price to pay for the perfect birthday gift.

If you have an idea of some items that I would love, or you would love to see up on the blog, send us an email at info@brooklynflea.com or tell us on Facebook or Twitter (@bkflea). See you next week.

We found our fan photos this week on photographer Kaylan Buteyn's pretty website. She took stunning pics of some items she found while visiting the Flea last weekend. Thanks for the pictures Kaylan (and to Paperfinger for hipping us to them!), they absolutely made our day and we hope to see you at the Flea again soon.

Remember, we post our favorite fan-submitted pictures every week, so be sure to send us your shots. You can email your pictures to info@brooklynflea.com, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (@bkflea).

SmorgasBrewery Lineup

Beer and food are delicious all the time, especially when the beer is from the Brooklyn Brewery and the food is from favorite Smorgasburg vendors. Come down to the Brooklyn Brewery this Sunday from noon to 5pm and have some sustenance with your alcohol. This week will have food from:

Bit Sized Kitchen: Connie Sun offers up some wonderful Asian inspired snacks that are the perfect size.

Bon Chovie: These metal head's provincial dishes will go perfectly with your ample amount of beer.

Brooklyn Bean Co: Fun Fact- nothing goes better with beer than legumes.

Remember we will be at the Brooklyn Brewery (79 N. 11th St. btw. Berry St. + Wythe Ave., Williamsburg) every Sunday this winter from Noon to 5pm-- see you there.

What's New?

by Hannah

We have two new vendors making their way to Skylight One Hanson this week and each use the word “spicy” to describe their delicious offerings. Spicy is often referred to by people (me) as the “antidote to horrible NYC cold fronts,” so get ready to warm your tongue this weekend.

Taste of Ethiopia

These guys will be serving delicious, and hot, Ethiopian food both days this weekend. For those of you who have never tried Ethiopian food, the best part is that you eat it with your hands-- and that it is some of the most flavorful food on the planet. But also, you eat it with your hands.

Chulita's Famous

The Chulita’s Famous girls make delicious Latin spices and sofritos with all natural ingredients. They will be showcasing their authentic and highly delicious blends both days this weekend, and have a handy website (www.chulitasfamous.com) where you can learn how to cook with your new spices.

See What Happens When You Flea?

Like proud parents at graduation we are absolutely beaming with pride that Smorgasburg and Flea favorites are opening their own restaurant. That’s right, Justin Bazdarich and Todd Feldman, who were a hit selling their homemade mozzarella all last year, are getting ready for the opening of their Clinton Hill restaurant Speedy Romeo.

It’s not just mozzarella for these boys anymore-- according to this preview in NYMag.com they are expanding to include wood-oven pizza and Italian entrees.  We are positive they will absolutely light up Clinton Hill when they open, just like they lit up the Smorgasburg over the summer. We are so excited try their stuff, and will be first in the door on opening day.

Speedy Romeo is set to open January 24th and is located at 376 Classon Ave, Clinton Hill. Congrats, guys—you deserve it!
