Flea Goes to Pot(Belly)

Hilarious mention of the Flea in today's Styles section of the Times, where Guy Trebay (hi Guy!) notes the proliferation of "Ralph Kramdens"--i.e., potbellys--among young Brooklyn dudes, citing the line for lobster rolls (above) at the Flea as evidence. For more newly coined terms like "coolios," "coolsters," and "poor-geoisie," read "It's Hip to be Round."

Which reminds us: lobster rolls (the owners, not the lobsters) are on vacation from both markets this weekend, but you will be able to find yummy Choncho's fish tacos in Fort Greene for the first time this Saturday. The "green" (guac'd) tacos are delish.

Yeah, I'm really not buying this "potbellies are new hip" thing. Among bears maybe, but that's not a fashion crowd. The hipsters I see are still skinny. I do hope Mr. Trebay wasn't confused overworked 30-something editors and Google employees with hipsters?

Why is this trend called the Ralph Kramden? Shouldn't it be called the Ed Norton? He was the skinny one with the pot bellie, no? Ralph was just fat all over I thought.

Yeah we have jobs unlike the skinny hipsters. We can afford to eat and eat well. Get over it. Skinny hipster guys who wear their girl freinds jeans yeah that cool. Let's face it beer is the real culprit and none of the $3.00 PBR crap unless your at the beach.
