Finders/Keepers April 18
April 20, 2009 | Filed In: Blog, Scavenger Hunt

The Hunt was over quick, as expected--what with 9000+ folks coming through Saturday. What a beeyooteefull day.
In addition to the fine folks above, a nice lady found the wave-design T-shirt at Flux Productions, who everyone always loves.
Left to right:
The Greenland Whale engraving was found by Jason Factor of Fort Greene (right) at 10:49am. He was clearly pleased about it, as was Ralph from the Intaglio Antique Prints + Maps booth. Intaglio comes down from Western Mass. to do Fort Greene and Dumbo, but this weekend is their last for a bit.
This lovely lass at right found the Trifari beaded bracelet at the Found by Susan Walker booth, but Susan's not in the pic because she took it. Oh well. Susan's a cool lady from Providence with great vintage jewelry and other trinkets, and she's also an awesome rollerderby gal.
Check back Friday at noon for this week's items.
April 18 Slideshow

Check out this week's slideshow by Jess. You can also view our Flickr page (ID: bklynflea) to see past snapshots. (Our pal Katie, a pro photog, also took some great shots Saturday that we'll be posting soon, including a nice series from the school roof.)
There were like a zillion Flea-related blog posts this weekend, so we rounded up some of the best, many of which feature their own slideshows. Twitter was aflutter with hundreds of Flea tweets too. Spring done sprung!

Just a quickie reminder that both Dumbo indoor markets are in full effect today at 76 + 81 Front St. Check the info box for a map and directions--another beautiful day to Flea!

The Hunt is back! We're just holding it in Fort Greene on Saturday this week, but it'll be in Dumbo too starting next Sunday.
For newcomers, when you find one of the items above, which can be hidden in any vendor booth, it's yours, absolutely free! Then we post your photo with the generous vendor here on the blog on Monday. Only one winner per calendar month. Items posted every Friday around Noon.
Three snazzy items for ya.
Happy hunting!
From left:
1. Engraving of a "Greenland Whale," from a bookplate dating from 1872. Vintage
2. Silkscreened T-shirt with wave pattern. New/Handmade
3. Vintage Trifari plastic beaded bracelet. Vintage
Racked.com in the Curated Corner
April 15, 2009 | Filed In: Blog

The Curated Corner makes its Fort Greene debut on Saturday, roaring into the yard with top shopping blog Racked and fancy Leslie at the helm. We're proud as pants to have them as Flea friends.
So just who has Racked roped in? It's a pretty serious list for serious shoppers:
Alter, the cutting-edge Franklin St. (Greenpoint) mens and womens shops (love them)
Hayden-Harnett, the refined and exalted Nolita (and now Greenpoint) designers/boutique
Inven.tory, the curated/outletty Lafayette St. boutique
Madewell, the excellent gals shop (and Senora Flea fave) with the Soho flagship
Shoe Market, the tightly curated small shoe shop in Williamsburg, itself born out of the Bedford Ave. Mini-Market
Check out Racked's post for some snazzy photos.
Each shop will have its own mini-booth at the Flea on Saturday, and you can expect the hot stuff to go fast--especially with a 70-degree sunny forecast!
Nice, Racked.
Botanic Garden Floral Arrangement

We want to beautify your Flea experience, perfect it, improve its smell. The most common Flea 311 question (no we don't really have that) is: Why don't you have seasonal flowers festooning the Lafayette entrance? Well, now we do.
To celebrate this Saturday's Fort Greene reopening, the Flea is proud to partner with the well-loved Brooklyn Botanic Garden and its annual Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival. In addition to beautiful blossoms decorating the market's main entrance, five Flea vendors have created the "Sakura Set," fashioning unique items inspired by the Japanese flower that will only be for sale at the market this Saturday and next, April 25. We're tickled pink, to say the least.
Vendors include (below from left, Osborn right) Bonbon Oiseau (jewelry), Foxy + Winston (stationery and silkscreen printing), Kimono Lily (vintage Japanese kimonos), Kumquat Cupcakery (um, cupcakes), and Osborn Design (art/crafts/felt squirrels).
You can check our fancy new vendor map at the Lafayette entrance (it's also posted online every Friday at noon) to find these fine folks. Grassroots in full effect!

Fresh Press
Kudos to Time Out for their laudatory profile of some top Flea vendors on the scene this spring, including Treasures + Pleasures, Kings County Salvage, Amble through Bramble, People's Pops, and Alive Structures. Most of these folks will be onboard opening day this Saturday, some will join us in May.
Prepping for Opening Day

We hope everyone's getting psyched for Opening Day on Saturday. We thought we'd share this photo of Rob and Eric hard at work yesterday repainting some of the booth boundaries in the middle of the schoolyard. Pray for sun!

Extra long version this week as we ramp up for the big reopening. Such great stuff last weekend! (Thanks for the pics Jess.)
