Radio Radio!

Just a quick note that Senor Flea will be on WNYC (93.9 FM) this morning from 11:40am 'til noon, live on The Brian Lehrer Show. (Brian himself is on vacation this week, which is a bummer.) We'll be talking about the community-building aspects of ze Flea, and generally buzzing about all things market-related, like the awesome Superstar DJ Record Fair we're lining up for Sept. 14. Stay tuned!

Stream it live here.

Update: here's the interview with Andrea Bernstein from this morning. Scan forward to the 9:10 mark to get to the Flea segment. (The bit before about the Monroe St. Market in Bushwick is definitely worth a listen too.)

Sorry pal - you sounded like an annoying yupster! And your little pandering comment about the part time homeless guys working for you didn't help. I don't blame the church or any others from resisting your gourmet cupcakes......You really are no different from the developers and greedy landlords uprooting families and communities. Enjoy your lilac cookies!

It's unfortunate that a rep from the church didn't come; however, it did give you more time.

Having listened to the interview, I thought she was kind of mean singling out the lavender cookies twice as a symbol of expensive goods at the Flea. People who haven't visited the Flea don't understand yet that it's partly, but not a 100% traditional, flea market, and that there are lots of local artisans with entrpreneurial micro businesses (something NYC needs, no?) offering new, not used or vintage, wonderful handmade products which, in a non-flea market setting, are snapped up without thought to price by the same consumers who complain about them being at the Flea. The word Flea in the name creates certain expectations of what kinds of vendors and products should be there. I still wish it were called Brooklyn Market or something else without the word Flea. Alas...too late....
